Scientists unearth India’s 183rd freshwater crab species

Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India and Asutosh College have confirmed a new crab species in West Bengal. By comparing reproductive appendages and shell depth, they identified that Indopotamon alipurduarense is indeed a new species. Named after the Alipurduar district, this crab is only the second ever recorded in its genus.
