Scientists use nuclear waste to make 'diamond batteries'

UK researchers have devised a way to convert nuclear waste into 'diamond batteries'. Taking used graphite rods from nuclear reactors, the researchers extracted the radioactive carbon-14 from the rods and concealed it inside artificial diamonds. These diamonds were shown to generate a small current when placed near a radioactive source. They could be used as low-power, long-life energy sources.
