Scotland's First Minister calls for new independence vote in 2023
Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Tuesday announced plans for a second referendum to be held on Scottish independence on October 19, 2023. "The issue of independence cannot be suppressed. It must be resolved democratically," Sturgeon said. Notably, voters in Scotland had rejected independence in the referendum held in 2014, with over 55% voting to remain in the UK.
