The Allahabad High Court ruled that seizing a vehicle on suspicion of carrying beef without scientific confirmation is “illegal and arbitrary.” It was hearing a 2024 case where police seized a vehicle in Baghpat on suspicion of transporting beef. The petitioner said it was only “suspected,” not confirmed beef, and his vehicle remained impounded for 18 months, causing livelihood losses.
