Shaktikanta Das is the 1st non-economist RBI Governor in 28 years

Retired IAS officer Shaktikanta Das is the first non-economist RBI Governor since 1990, when S Venkitaraman was appointed to the post. Unlike his predecessors Urjit Patel and Raghuram Rajan, who were economists, Das pursued post-graduation in History from Delhi University and financial management programme from IIM Bangalore. Notably, there're no fixed eligibility criteria for RBI Governor's post.
