Sharapova won her first Grand Slam aged 17

Maria Sharapova won her first Grand Slam at the age of 17 years by defeating Serena Williams at Wimbledon in 2004. She is one of ten women, and the only Russian, to hold the career Grand Slam having won Wimbledon, French Open, Australian Open and US Open. Sharapova has been ranked world number 1 for a total of 21 weeks.
