Singapore ends 182-year-old horse racing tradition

Land-scarce Singapore ended the 182-year-old British-era tradition of horse racing on Saturday as Singapore shut its iconic racecourse at the Singapore Turf Club (STC). The 124-hectare land will be returned to the government by March 2027 for housing and other development projects. Horse racing was introduced to Singapore over 180 years ago by Scottish merchant William Henry Macleod Read.
