Singapore narrowly avoids recession

Singapore has narrowly avoided entering into a recession. Its economy grew by 0.7% year-on-year and 0.3% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter, preliminary government data showed. In the first quarter, Singapore's economy had contracted by 0.4% quarter-on-quarter. Earlier this month, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) had warned of an "uncertain" growth outlook with downside risks.
