Singapore's life expectancy declines for the first time since 1957

Singapore's life expectancy declined by two months in 2021, marking the first time it has fallen since records were first kept in 1957. Officials from Department of Statistics attributed the decline to COVID-19, the fifth-most common cause of death in the city-state last year. Singapore's life expectancy at birth was 83.5 years in 2021, compared with 83.7 years in 2019.
