Sleeping polar bear disturbed in Norway, person fined over $5,000
A person in Norway's Svalbard has been fined 50,000 Norwegian kroner (around $5,300) after using a ship's horn to disturb a sleeping polar bear. The animal woke up and moved away. Authorities said the act was intentional and violated strict wildlife protection rules. Svalbard requires people to maintain a minimum distance from polar bears to prevent dangerous encounters.
