Smriti Irani beats Rahul as BJP wins Amethi seat after 20 years

BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani defeated Congress President Rahul Gandhi by a margin of 55,120 votes to win the Amethi Lok Sabha seat. This is the first time since 1999 that BJP has won the Amethi constituency. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul had won the Amethi seat, beating Irani by over one lakh votes.
