Snake thought to be male gives birth to 14 snakelets despite not having a mate

A snake that was thought to be male has given birth to 14 snakelets despite not having contact with any other snakes for nine years. The boa constrictor gave birth at City of Portsmouth College, England. The miracle birth was due to the extremely rare phenomenon of parthenogenesis, a natural form of asexual reproduction in which embryos develop without fertilisation.
