SOHO mission discovers 5,000th comet diving around Sun

SOHO, a joint mission of ESA and NASA, dedicated to observing the Sun, recently discovered its 5,000th comet orbiting the solar star. Discovered by Hanjie Tan, the sungrazing comet named SOHO-5000 has a short orbital period and belongs to the 'Marsden group', linked to comet 96P/Machholz. The group was identified by scientist Brian Marsden, based on SOHO data.
