Sonam Wangchuk in jail, Parliamentary panel praises work of his institute

A Parliamentary panel headed by Congress MP Digvijaya Singh has described the work done by the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives (HIAL) as "exemplary" and has called on the University Grants Commission (UGC) to grant it recognition. HIAL was founded by activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained in September in connection with the violent protests in Leh.
