South Africa's Transnet Freight Rail has claimed the world's longest freight train record after operating a 696-wagon formation stretching 7.6 km on the Sishen-Saldanha corridor. It surpassed the previous Guinness-listed mark of 7.353 km, set by Australia's BHP Iron Ore in 2001 with 682 wagons. The empty train completed its journey on October 18.
