South Korea discharges its first transgender soldier

South Korea's military has discharged its first transgender soldier who was enlisted as a man and underwent gender reassignment surgery last year, claiming Byun Hui-su's case "constitutes a reason for being unable to continue service". Byun, who holds the rank of staff sergeant, said she was recommended the surgery by doctors at a military hospital after suffering from gender dysphoria.
