South Korea's first transgender soldier found dead

South Korea's first known transgender soldier, who was discharged from the military last year for undergoing gender reassignment surgery, was found dead at her home. Byun Hee-soo, who underwent the surgery in 2019 in Thailand, had launched legal challenge against the military over her dismissal but her reinstatement was rejected. South Korea prohibits transgender people from joining the military.
