Spain imposes de facto emergency in Catalonia over referendum

Catalonian President Carles Puigdemont has claimed that Spain has imposed a de facto state of emergency in the region ahead of its independence referendum. He further claimed that the government had implemented a "de facto suspension of Catalonia's self-governance" by tightening control over its finances. The Spanish government has termed the Catalonian independence referendum as illegal.
