Spinal cord stimulation improves hand strength after injury

A 30-year-old road accident survivor with severe spinal cord injury showed improved hand strength after spinal cord stimulation. Doctors implanted a 16-contact electrode system at the C5 level to deliver controlled electrical impulses. The patient showed one-grade improvement in hand power over six months and will continue rehabilitation and regular electrode programming for recovery.
