Sri Lanka bans 11 extremist groups, including ISIS & al-Qaeda

Sri Lanka has banned 11 hardline Islamist organisations, including ISIS and al-Qaeda, for their links to extremist activities in the nation. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa under a special gazette notification proscribed the groups under Prevention of Terrorism (temporary) Provisions Act. It said any person who acts in contravention or conspires to act would be jailed for between 10 and 20 years.
