Sri Lanka ex-Defence Secretary acquitted in 2019 Easter bombings case

A Sri Lankan court on Friday acquitted former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and ex-police chief Pujith Jayasundara of all charges in connection with the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, which killed more than 250 people. The men were indicted in November for failing to prevent the suicide bomb blasts despite receiving near-specific intelligence warnings from foreign agencies in advance.
