Sri Lanka PM Mahinda Rajapaksa-led party wins general election

The Sri Lanka People's Party (SLPP), led by PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, registered a landslide victory in the country's general election which was held on Wednesday. The SLPP and its allies secured 150 seats, a two-thirds majority in the 225-member Parliament, according to the election commission. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had appointed his brother Mahinda as PM in November 2019.
