Sri Lanka to launch its first official marijuana plantation

Sri Lanka will open its first official marijuana plantation to ensure high-quality supplies for medicinal purposes as well as for exports to the US, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said on Wednesday. The marijuana farm could produce more than 25 tonnes a year and would be under military protection, Senaratne added. Notably, smoking and possessing marijuana is illegal in Sri Lanka.
