Sri Lanka's Jaffna airport opens, Alliance Air flight first to land

Air India subsidiary Alliance Air's flight from Chennai was accorded water salute as it became the first flight to land at the new Jaffna International Airport in Sri Lanka's Northern Province. The flight had Air India Chairman Ashwani Lohani and Alliance Air CEO CS Subbiah on board. The airport, Sri Lanka's third international airport, was built with Indian assistance.
