Stop ritual of dumping bodies in rivers: UP govt to officials

Uttar Pradesh government has directed district officials, senior police officers and Panchayati Raj officials to ensure that 'Jal Pravah', the practice of dumping bodies in river after death, must be stopped. This comes after several bodies were found floating in Ganga. According to Chief Secretary RK Tiwari, ₹5,000 has been released for every poor family for cremation of their dead.
