STT hike raises futures trading costs and may cut volumes

Securities Transaction Tax changes from April 1 increased costs sharply for futures trades, with rates rising to 0.05% from 0.02%. Kotak Securities’ Ashish Nanda said the impact is higher as tax applies on contract value, unlike options. He added this could reduce futures volumes and shift traders towards options-based strategies amid rising market volatility.
