Study finds 'AI may create memories in humans of things they have never done'

Research from MIT Media Lab found that generative AI can implant false memories and distort human recollection of events. In the experiment, over 200 participants viewed photographs, with some later shown AI-modified versions. Those who saw altered images were more likely to recall details incorrectly during a subsequent memory test and expressed greater confidence in their false memories.
