Study finds how patterns on butterfly wings may fool predators about speed & direction
A study published in Nature suggests that striking colours and patterns on butterfly wings help create visual illusions during flight, making it difficult for predators to judge their speed and direction. Researchers said this gives butterflies an advantage when escaping predators. Butterfly patterns can alter the balance of motion information reaching a predator’s visual system, the study said.
