Study links faster DNA ageing to shorter lifespans in large dogs
An Arizona State University study of 864 dogs found that giant breeds lose DNA methylation markers regulating “jumping genes” called LINE1s about 35% faster annually than small breeds. This weakened genetic regulation may contribute to accelerated ageing and shorter lifespans. Published in Science, the findings suggest a possible mechanism but do not prove causation.
