Study shows heavy toll of human activity on South India's rivers
River monitoring in India relies mainly on basic water chemistry, but a new study expands this view with multi-metric indicators. Researchers evaluated fish, plants, and land use in the Cauvery basin. The researchers found severe degradation in rivers' health as they flowed downstream into human-dominated zones, including influx of non-native fish species driven by agricultural pressures and dams.
