Sugar molecules found in Milky Way may have helped life begin on earth

Scientists have discovered erythrulose, the first true sugar detected in interstellar space, at the centre of the Milky Way. Researchers believe such sugar molecules may have reached Earth about four billion years ago, helping provide the building blocks of life. Sugars are essential for energy production and are key components of DNA, RNA and other biological molecules.
