Supernova Explosions Linked to Black Hole Formation

Astronomers have found direct link between massive stars' explosive deaths and formation of black holes & neutron stars. They observed a supernova explosion in nearby galaxy, finding evidence for compact remnant left behind. Brightness oscillated as it declined, revealing repeating sequence of brightening & fading caused by interaction between compact object & companion star orbiting around it.
