Supreme Court changes definition of 'industry' after nearly 50 years
A CJI Surya Kant-led bench of nine SC judges ruled that the 'triple tests', laid down by a 1978 judgement to define "industry", have to be reformulated. The new definition will apply prospectively to cases based on incidents that happened before the enforcement of the 2020 Labour Relations Code. The SC noted that triple test's essential framework will remain unchanged.
