Switzerland introduces landmark animal welfare labelling law

Switzerland has become the first country to mandate animal welfare transparency labels on food and menus. The law requires disclosure if animals underwent painful procedures without anaesthesia. Targeting imported products as well, the measure aims to increase consumer awareness and accountability. Businesses have been given two years to update packaging and restaurant menus.
