Syrian 'White Helmets' bags Oscar for best short documentary

'The White Helmets', a documentary about volunteer rescue workers in Syria, has won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short. The White Helmets are the largest civil society organisation operating in Syrian areas outside of government control. The documentary's cinematographer Khaled Khatib could not attend the ceremony as he had been barred from entering the US despite being granted a visa.
