Tamil Nadu government hikes bus fares after 6 years

Tamil Nadu has hiked bus fares for the first time in six years, citing revision in diesel price, increased drivers' wages and costlier buses among other reasons. While the maximum fare for Chennai buses has increased from ₹14 to ₹23, bus fares in rural areas witnessed an increase of almost 33%. Volvo bus fares were increased from ₹33 to ₹51.
