Tamil Nadu govt exempts law and order department from RTI Act

The Tamil Nadu government has issued an order exempting the Public (Law and Order) Department from the RTI Act, declaring it a security and intelligence agency. The order exempts information on matters including communal and caste clashes, NSA detentions, student agitations and custodial deaths from the RTI Act. It further states the move is to maintain peace in the state.
