Tata Power drops licence bid in K'taka amid opposition from govt

Tata Power has withdrawn its bid to operate a parallel power distribution network in Karnataka after facing opposition from state utilities, employee unions and government. Electricity regulator received nearly 20 lakh objections to a private player's entry. State-run discoms argued that parallel distribution could hurt the financial viability and long-term sustainability of existing ESCOMs.
