Taxpayer gets ₹10.44-lakh gifts from family on marriage anniversary, ITAT says it's taxable

A taxpayer named Varun Manchanda approached Income Tax Appellate Tribunal after gifts he got on his 10th wedding anniversary were added to his taxable income. Manchanda said he received gifts worth ₹10.44 lakh in ₹2,100-₹11,000 denominations from family and relatives, calling them tax-exempt. ITAT said the gifts were taxable since Manchanda couldn't furnish any details of the concerned relatives.
