The Emergency and a Bold Dissent by Justice HR Khanna

On 28 April 1976, the Supreme Court delivered its judgment in ADM Jabalpur v. Shiv Kant Shukla, wherein it held that during a national emergency citizens had no rights to approach the Court, leaving them remediless during the 1975-77 Emergency. Justice Khanna was the lone dissenter on the bench, a move that cost him the Chief Justiceship of India.
