Phumdis are unique islands that float in the Loktak Lake in Manipur. Locals build bamboo huts (phumsang) on these islands and earn livelihoods through fishing and vegetable cultivation. Phumdis move up and down with changes in water levels and host rich biodiversity. The floating islands are a popular tourist attraction as well.
