The original Hollywood sign was sold on eBay for ₹2.9 crore

The original 1923 Hollywood sign, which was intended to be a real estate advertisement, was sold on eBay in November 2005 for about ₹2.9 crore ($450,400). The owner stated that he had bought the sign from a man who acquired it in 1978, when the city put up a new sign. The sign was sold to finance a Hollywood project.
