In 1999, Flight IC 814 was hijacked by five terrorists while flying from Kathmandu to New Delhi. The plane was diverted to Kandahar, Afghanistan. After a week-long standoff, India agreed to release three militants in exchange for the hostages. The incident worsened India-Pakistan relations.
