Antarctica's 'Doomsday Glacier' may double sea-level rise by 2100: Study
New research in Nature Communications warns Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier, nicknamed "Doomsday Glacier", could contribute 30mm to global sea-level rise by 2100 — double prior estimates. Warm ocean water penetrates beneath the ice via tidal pumping, accelerating melt. There is a 60% chance the glacier detaches from the Mouginot Ridge by 2100, possibly as early as the late 2030s.
