Tirupati trust cheated of ₹54 crore by contractor who sold polyester shawls as silk

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) was supplied with 100% polyester shawls that were billed as pure mulberry silk products that were actually sought by the trust that manages Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh. A shawl that costs about ₹350 was being billed at ₹1,300 and the total estimated loss is around ₹54 crore. The shawls were supplied from 2015 to 2025.
