'Tom and Jerry', 'Popeye' director Gene Deitch passes away aged 95

Oscar-winning illustrator and animation filmmaker Gene Deitch, best known for directing cartoon shows 'Tom and Jerry' and 'Popeye The Sailor', passed away aged 95 in Prague. The American-born Czech illustrator died unexpectedly on Thursday in his apartment, his publisher said. Deitch was also a recipient of the Winsor McCay Award for his lifelong contribution to animation.
