TRAI mandates '1600' number for insurance callers to prevent fraud

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued a direction mandating that the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI)-regulated entities adopt '1600' series numbers. The series number must be adopted by the last date of February 15, 2026. The move aims to enhance consumer trust, curb spam, and prevent fraudulent activities perpetrated through voice calls.
