TRAI will regulate Internet-driven TV, also called FAST TV

TRAI has released a consultation paper to regulate FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) and app-based linear TV under a new category called Application-based Linear Television Distribution (ALTD) services. The move addresses regulatory gaps, ensuring parity with traditional broadcasters, content accountability, and consumer protection, with stakeholder comments due by May 4, 2026.
