Treat ultra-processed foods more like cigarettes than food: Study

Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) should be treated more like cigarettes than foods, according to a study by Harvard, University of Michigan and Duke University researchers. The study found that common UPFs like soft drinks and chips are industrially produced in such a way as to optimise doses of addictive ingredients and encourage overuse. The study recommended applying regulatory policies to UPFs.
