Tricolour was 1st unfurled at Red Fort on Aug 16, 1947

India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled the national flag for the first time at the Red Fort on August 16, 1947, one day after independence. Since then, it's been a tradition for the PM to hoist the flag at the Red Fort on Independence Day. Nehru has unfurled the flag atop Red Fort 17 times, maximum by any PM.
